About
Background
I am an onchain data scientist based in Nashville, TN. For four years I have worked on protocol analytics and research: governance and DAO coverage at Messari, incentive and quest tracking at Boost Studios, airdrop eligibility and liquidity growth at Scroll, DEX volume quality and fee-revenue modeling at Uniswap Labs, and now data journalism and chart production as a consultant to a16z crypto.
The through-line is the same in each role: take a question people already have an answer to, find out what the data actually supports, and publish it in a form that someone else can check.
How I approach analysis
Start with competing hypotheses. Before writing a query I write down the explanations that could produce the pattern in question, including the boring ones, and what result would rule each one out. The analysis is then a series of attempts to falsify, not a search for support.
Verify independently of the thing being verified. Every number I publish is recomputed a second way: from raw events rather than a curated table, from a different data provider, or from a script that reads only the committed data file. If the two paths disagree, that disagreement is the finding until it is explained.
State the limitations at the same weight as the findings. Aggregation bias, coverage gaps, schema quirks, and the alternative explanations that were not ruled out belong in the body of the work, not in a footnote. A reader should be able to tell exactly how far a conclusion can be pushed.
